Putting the Vehicle Togheter - Part I

Taking good care of your automobile is very important to keeping it running smoothly without any problems. It is the purpose of this blog to help you in achieving this. However, to learn how to maintain your car it is also very important to start at the beginning and learn a bit about the history of the motor car and a little bit more about how each of its components and systems fit together. We hope you enjoy the journey! Let's get started.

The history of the automobile begins more than a hundred years ago. Yes, it hasn't been that long that vehicles have been around, although sometimes it seems they have been with us for quite a while. We can trace the origins of the car as we know it today to two individuals in Germany, Daimler and Benz and to two individuals in the United States, Henry Ford and Ransom Olds. Those are the days where only the really wealthy could give themselves the luxury of owning an automobile. Now, it was not just owning an automobile. It was also operating it and repairing. Both of these two required someone with dedicated training and of course, someone wealthy to pay for these services.

Today, auto mobiles have 10,000 or more individual parts that are part of many complex electronic and computer systems. As a result, working on cars requires specialized training on electrical/electronic systems, drivetrain, transmission, suspension, brakes and body systems. But, let this not be discouraging. Here are the major sections of a car:

  • The chassics: this is the underlying structure on which all the other parts are mounted. Indeed, it servers as the skeleton of the car.
  • The engine: in today's car, the engine is composed of an internet combustion mechanism that takes in air and fuel, mixes them, produces and expansive force, and turns such energy into motion that can cause the auto to move.
  • Drivetrain: These are the components, such as the transmission, which do the actual work of transferring the power produced by the engine to move the car.

That's all for now, the very basics of the automobile. In future posts, we will learn more about the purpose of each component and other basic concepts that will you understand how a car works.
