How to take care of the leather in your car

Having leather seats in your vehicle has several advantages. In addition to adding a luxurious look to your vehicle, leather car seats can also add a soft feel and a bit of extra comfort. Indeed, leather can engage all senses. The smell of leather is one that is clearly noticeable, specially in new cars. Furthermore, leather can result in a better resale value for your car than cloth seats.

Yet, there are also some clear disadvantages to leather seats. For one, they are generally more expensive than cloth seats. In addition, leather seats can become very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter.

But, let's just say that you already bought your car, and that you opted for getting leather seats. How do you take care of them? Let's see the steps:

1) The first step to take care of your leather seats is to wipe down the leather surfaces with a soft, damp rag on a weekly basis. This helps to keep them free of all residues from spills.

2) On a month to month basis, it is generally a good idea to use a leather conditioner, which will protect the leather against cracking. in addition, a leather conditioner will keep your interior soft.

3) It is a good idea to apply a leather protecting cream every three months after your regular routine of cleaning and conditioning, as this will help your leather stay close to new as possible.

4) Finally, remember that sun can be one of your leather's worst enemies. Thus, do your best to reduce direct exposure to the sun. This can include tinting your windows of your car.

Indeed, taking care of your leather requires a little bit more work and money. But the touch of elegance that they can add... it is priceless.
